Churchill Fellowship

Arlene was awarded an Education Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 2013-2014. She travelled to New Zealand and Australia to research critical literacy education, in policy and practice. During her Fellowship, Arlene acted as an ambassador for UK education and conducted a number of fruitful research engagements. As well as drawing on the expertise of academics, teachers, policy makers and government officials in Australia and New Zealand, Arlene also gave presentations on UK approaches to curriculum and assessment design to various audiences in Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington and Otago. Some highlights of her research engagements are recorded in the blog posts below.

Her Fellowship report, ‘Reading between the lines: improving the UK’s critical literacy education’ is available here.
